This course introduces student to nursing roles and functions in clinical practice. It prepares students with the knowledge, attitude and skills to manage and promote health in patients with medical conditions affecting multi-system (systemic disorders), respiratory, cardiovascular, hematopoietic, immunologic, and gastrointestinal systems. It also discusses common infectious diseases of bacterial, viral, ricketsial, fungal and protozoal origins common to the African Region. Emphasis is placed on utilization of the nursing process in the provision of quality nursing care.

Disorders of the endocrine, nervous, genito-urinary, musculoskeletal, integumentary and special sense systems will be covered in Medical Nursing 2 course unit.
