This course is a foundation course meant to empower teacher trainees in understanding the major elements of any school curriculum. It covers the concept of curriculum, its importance and its determinants. This course also provides prospective teachers with the strategies of designing, developing and implementing a curriculum. It focuses on the design, development and implementation of the curriculum. It also exposes the learners to the role of National Curriculum Development Centre.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the learner should be able to:

(i) define the concept of curriculum and other related terms and the implications of the different definitions to classroom teacher.

(ii) explain the different curricular dimension and their relationships

(iii) identify determinants of a curriculum and their use at school and within the country

(iv) explain the different curricular models

(v) Describe the curriculum development and implementation process and identify the challenges faced by different stakeholders

(vi) examine the role of Uganda National Curriculum Development Centre in curriculum development.
