Brief Description
The first part of the course provides analysis of historical development of education in Uganda with particular reference to schooling and other agents of socialization viewed in their social, political and economic context. The second part exposes students to education systems of selected countries. Analysis of the aims, values and factors affecting education systems, issues and problems in education in different education systems is done.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:
(i) familiarize him/herself with development of education system in pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial Uganda.
(ii) explore gender dynamics in education and their effects.
(iii) assess the various local and international intervention strategies in the education sector
(iv) compare the implementation of education in various countries with our education system.
(v) apply knowledge, skills and values acquired to facilitate educational innovations and reforms.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the course, the graduate can:
(i) discuss the African indigenous education.
(ii) compare and contrast the western education system with the Ugandan education system.
(iii) discuss the government interventions in the education system of the country.
