Brief Description

This course explores the influence of society on education. It analyses schooling the context of culture and structure. This course covers the basic concepts in sociology of education, the social support systems in education, the challenge of school dropout, the classroom environment and learning and the role of the teacher and the community in education. The course content is selected in such a way that it forms a foundation for understanding the critical sociological aspects of education.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

(i) acquire sociological knowledge in solving students’ problems

(ii) understand the society and environment in which he operates

(iii) understand the behavior of their learners and how best to support them in the learning process

(iv) demonstrate the relationship between education and societal development.

By the end of the course, the graduate can:
