Brief Description
The first part of the course explores preparation and techniques of teaching secondary school students. It includes making schemes of work, lesson plans and lesson notes. It also explores the concept of learning, different types of learning styles and the role of the teacher in guiding the process. The second part of the course aims at enhancing the ability of student teachers to effectively assess the teaching and learning process. It provides an exposition of evaluation and various types of assessment used in secondary schools.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:
(i) explain the concept of learning and describe the factors that affect learning
(ii) analyze the different learning styles and how these affect teaching methods
(iii) Analyse the concept of teaching as a profession and locate themselves as future professional teachers
(iv) plan and construct schemes of work and lesson plans
(v) select the vast teaching methods to use in teaching various topics/
(vi) apply the various classroom management and control strategies
Learning Outcomes
